Sustained Awareness in the Present Moment

and sensations in the framework of present-time awareness

Over the last decade, Mindfulness practice has exploded
into mainstream culture. The term "Mindfulness" has entered
our everyday vernacular, and it seems it is here to stay.
So, what is Mindfulness?
In short, Mindfulness is the ability to objectively monitor the
arising and passing of thoughts, emotions and sensations within the framework of present-time awareness.
In truth, Mindfulness requires that a host of concepts and
practices are contemplated and cultivated. It challenges us
to apply critical thinking, discernment, logic, ethics and a
willingness to question old ideas and core beliefs. Doing so
offers us the ability to view our lives from a much newer
and richer perspective.
The practice and theory of Mindfulness as it's outlined in
early Buddhism and the Pali canon. We will take a close
look at the Satipatthana Sutta, the Anapanasati Sutta, and
discuss the role of the Three Marks, as well as the practice
and cultivation of the Bramha Viharas. Explore and learn to
integrate the four foundations of mindfulness with the classic
brahma viharas ( divine abodes of loving-kindness,
compassion, joy, and equanimity). This ancient
Theravada method of practice allows for insight
and wisdom to arise within a context of kindness
and friendliness.

People are often confused about how to meditate, what is it and how do I know when I am really doing it? While it may surprise you with its simplicity, it still takes some practice.
Almost every single human being has had a peaceful, quiet, and clear-minded moment; a moment where the heart and mind open up to compassion and clarity.
It is from these moments that we can build our personal awareness and create the life that we want to live.
When we sit and focus our attention and settle into deep awareness - we are meditating. When we walk and take in the freshness of the morning air - we are meditating. When we truly listen to someone in need and open our heart to the expansiveness of our world and celebrate the short period of time we share here - we are meditating.
Mindfulness meditation is unique in that it gives us specific tools that each of us can use to approach life with greater skill and awareness.
We invite you to come and meditate with us at InsightLA and experience the depth of your own mindfulness meditation. We'll meet you where you are and take care of the details and finer points of meditation instruction as you set out on the journey that can truly take you anywhere.
